The Curse of Resolutions

Posted on January 11, 2020January 11, 2020 by Pat Mullaly

Every year I resolve and promise XYZ … I’m good for a few days and then— zap! I miss a day, or eat a scoop of ice cream, or forget “Z of the XYZ”… and then I feel guilty!

Typing resolutions

Well, this year, I resolved to NOT resolve. And I feel so much better for not putting high expectations and promises out into the ether… where they sit and stare back at me.

This year, I decided to just live! one day at a time… and enjoy life…

It’s a matter of living each moment and deciding what would make me happy at that moment… and if staying under the covers until 11 in the morning is what I truly desire… well! There you go. Lazy, crazy, under the covers, is where you’ll find me. (If you bother to look, but don’t bother, because I have never liked sleeping toooo late. It makes me groggy when I finally rise. Although, I will admit to sleeping overtime after my latest golf trip… missing the last bus home and staying up in the airport terminal through a very long night. That time, I did stay under the covers for a full day! No guilt involved. I deserved it. 🙂

So, here’s a question for you… Have you made any resolutions this year? Resolutions you can live with and break without guilt?

Do you believe in the wisdom of making resolutions? Ever had a resolution that you kept, that actually changed your life? Like loosing a hundred pounds or taking up knitting as a hobby?

Add your two cents in the comment section below, and let me know. 🙂

I don’t make resolutions. I make decisions. In my mind there is a real difference. I can change a decision based on the newest information I have or if circumstances change, without hesitation or guilt. A resolution feels dead ended. Keep the resolution or fail. Bad karma.

Good analysis! Resolutions are destined to fail. Why do we keep making them???? A mystery.

Disclaimer

Dillard Beach Mystery, A Work in Progress is a work of fiction. Names, characters, business, events and incidents are the products of the author’s imagination. Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, or actual events is purely coincidental. Descriptions of herbal remedies are invented and should be treated with a large dollop of skepticism.
