This is really scary when you think about it. CBS’ 60 Minutes just screened a segment on great white sharks found off the coast of Cape Cod. The seal population, once thought to be declining, has increased in recent years thanks to conservation efforts. All good. BUT…. as the grey seal is one of nature’s delicacies that sharks love to nibble, an increase in seal population means an increased presence of seal predators, i.e. great white sharks!
The professionals that know far better than I about such things, claim that the chances of being bitten by a shark is next to nothing… minimal. But even if it’s just a 1 in a million chance to find a nibbling shark on your ass the next time you’re in the ocean? No! Not for me.
If I must go swimming —and the vision of me in a swimsuit is enough to prevent any attempt at aquatic events— then I will head for the local pond. The worst that can happen is being visited by a snapping turtle or stepping on a crab? Right?
Good thing I don’t swim.
