Traveling to Newport, Rhode Island
My sister and I have headed south to the seaside harbor of Newport. Only a couple of hours from home, but another world. We are here to explore, visit the mansions and walk along the ocean paths.

We are staying in an Airbnb… a very old house set right up against the curb on a side street in downtown Newport. Surrounded by fancy shops and only steps from the shore, it’s near most of the action. Parking could a problem, but it’s off-season so a lot of the tourists have disappeared.
We arrived late yesterday afternoon, and settled in. Plenty of room. There is a full kitchen, three bedrooms, two bathrooms… a small backyard. Very quiet neighborhood. There is an 8 pm noise curfew!!!! No wild parties after all.
This morning I explored the immediate neighborhood in search of a cup of coffee. I forgot the “joe” when I packed all the food for the trip. I was looking for the fancy coffee shop which Google Maps located two streets over. But it was closed… probably for the season. So I found Gary’s Diner just up the street. It’s the local for the townies. They had just what I was looking for: t
I’m heading out in just a few minutes to visit an old friend who lives in Peacedale, RI. It’s only a half hour away but with both the Newport and Jamestown bridges to cross, I’m sure to get mixed up going in the wrong direction. Must learn to rely on Google Maps…. (I got lost walking in circles this morning… can’t seem to trust the gps.)
Looks like fun! You’re only a couple of blocks from the ocean? Very nice.
We head to the cliff walk tomorrow! Will take photos and add those to the blog. 🙂
