Years ago I met a guy at a business networking event. His business was cleaning carpets. You would recognize the company name as he became very successful. I don’t know why or how we got talking about carpets and cleaning and I asked him about the toughest stains he ever encountered in his work… He shared with me his very special secret… a special formula he used on carpets and other fabrics to remove some really hard to clean spots. He made me promise never to tell anyone because it might affect his business! And of course, I kept my promise until now!!!
He never revealed his secret to his customers. Instead he would show up with his secret formula premixed in a fancy spray bottle that had a fancy label on the front. He would make a big show about the secret formula… how it had taken him years to formulate and now it was proprietary and took special skills to use. Only a few carpet cleaning companies had the formula or the skill to use it. Customers, of course, would be impressed and pay big bucks for him to clean their rugs.
Long story endless….he was a snake oil salesman. And a good one. Cleaned a lot of carpets… made a lot of money and eventually retired to the islands, I guess.
So why am I telling you all this? If you read the previous post about my HATING wild turkeys and the shit they leave behind —shit I have tracked into my house … you will appreciate this: I just mixed up a batch of the infamous secret formula this guy had shared with me all those years ago… and Behold! It worked. My carpet is clean! I was about to toss it out but it has been saved from the dump. I will post before and after pics to prove it to you.
Oh Wondrous Secret Formula! that now you can use too… He’s made his money and the formula was never really secret and it’s actually on the internet if you do a search for “Turkey Shit Stains”…
1 Tablespoon of dishwashing liquid (Dawn or Palmolive)
+ 1 Tablespoon of White Vinegar + 2 cups warm water
Sponge the stain, blot with a soft cloth, sponge, blot, etc. until the stain is gone. I used a toothbrush to really scrub the spot as well. And it worked.
I think the real secret is the combo of vinegar and liquid soap… I bet it would work for just about any liquid soap but the carpet cleaner always used Palmolive Green, and he became rich… so there you go!
Did it change the color of the carpet at all? The test is : can you see where the spots were once it is dry?
It looks like the area where the spots were are clear… see “after” photo….
Madge always did know best!
