It’s easy to get carried away with a good thing!
It’s raining today, and a good day to stay inside and do “domestic” things. Like bake cookies. I had the ingredients for my fabu macaroons, but my sister, who is, if nothing else, fussy about her cookies, decided she would much rather something else. So off to the store I went.
I settled on a good old standby recipe – Chocolate Chip! Bought all the bits and pieces in the sugar/flour aisle and trotted back home to begin the baking.

When I bake (and it’s not too often) I find I need to keep my area tidy**. Neat. With all the necessary ingredients lined up, one after the other so I can keep everything straight in my head. That way I’m unlikely to mix up the recipe. Though, I have to say, the recipe for Toll House Cookies from the back of the Nestle’s Chip package was not well thought out. They mix up the wet with the dry bits and it’s easy to put the wrong thing in the mixing bowl in the wrong order, which in baking I have discovered can be a disaster. Baking is chemistry! And if you put the soda in before the salt, or the eggs before the flour… strange things can begin to perculate.
Anyway, no disasters this time. I made about four dozen cookies… too many to eat all at once, so a few are in the freezer for another time. But they are deeeeliccious! Want one?
** “Tidy” is such a Victorian term. Makes me want to sit up straight! But keeping things in their proper place is a virtue I hope someday to acquire. But not today. There is something very freeing about letting things just lay about, don’t you think? But not in baking, of course, when I need to line up ingredients or I will be sure to forget something important like sugar or chocolate chips. 🙂
