Staying Put…?

Posted on August 29, 2020August 29, 2020 by Pat Mullaly

I’ve been stuck in a COVID funk since the beginning of this craziness.… for me, it was late February, early March of 2020. I had just returned from a fabu 2 weeks in Florida, just enjoying the sunshine, the beach, the local bar and the fact we lived on a golf course… Playing almost every day…

In the beginning… I had heard the news about this strange virus hitting parts of the USA… but did not take it seriously… My thinking: it’s not going to hit home, or me, or Massachusetts anytime soon… the virus was in China, or Italy, but not here….

Then I got on the plane to return home and the woman sitting next to me started wiping everything down with a disinfectant wipe… seats, tray, her hands, arms… the whole megillah… I borrowed a wipe from her and did the same. It was my first taste of the virus insanity…

Since the beginning of March, I’ve been staying put. I tried “Peapod Delivery Service” for food deliveries… but gave that up… I decided to be brave and do the shopping myself. I just needed a mask.

Protection? Stop and Shop was all out of masks and hand sanitizer… I ordered neck gaiters online and a box of latex gloves…. (took nearly 3 weeks to get them delivered…) meanwhile found an old dust mask in the cellar my sister had used when she was sanding the last piece of furniture she sold on ebay… I wore it once… Fortunately, I was able to get some free masks from my physical therapist. They gave out masks to all patients. I collected a new one each time I visited. (Now have a bunch in my car’s glove compartment for future use.)

Golf… one sport that is still happening is golf. We each drive individual golf carts or walk the course. No crowding…. but there isn’t much of that on the golf course anyway. My friends and I do share a meal after a round of golf, but with social distancing around a large table… and always out on the deck of the course clubhouse. My game is going nowhere fast… stuck in with the high handicappers… but I figure with some future lesson, it might come down a notch.

One problem playing golf… I’ve developed a case of the shaky bakys…. Vertigo!!! Am working on my exercises to get my crystals back where they belong… still swinging a golf club when the ball is constantly moving around in front of my eyes is a challenge,

Party anyone ??? Not a chance. The best party I’ve been at was visiting my friend Jeanne to get my hair cut. She has a friend who visits with shears and does the job on the back deck. Wine and nibbles extra.

Otherwise… no visitors, no shopping (except for food and bare essentials) Saving $$$ … Golf trip canceled, got a refund to add to my “party fund” for when this is over. But I hear it might last until after Christmas… my nephew works for a company that researches these things… they told him to shelter in place until at least JUNE!!!! Yikes.

Meanwhile, the dust collects and I really need to vacuum. I’m avoiding political discussions and I’m binge watching Sex and the City from the late 90s… It’s still a good show.

Stay safe, stay inside.

Watcha lookin for?
